Only problem is I'd have a tough time recommending anything in the area (especially walking distance, which is always nice). I lived for 6 years down in the Streeterville area (Lakeshore Dr. across from Navy Pier), and now moved up to Lakeview (near Wrigley).
So... I'm going to have to point you to www.metromix.com which has a fairly decent search engine for restaurants, events, etc. You can choose by neighborhood, type, $$, etc.
The best Indian places I know are farther north (Devon and Ashland area), and there is typically good Asian food around.
Wish I could of more help from a personal recommendation standpoint
