wayyyyyyyy out of proportion.
Well, he calls me up again a couple of days ago, and he sounds even more depressed than before. Since he has lukemia, I figure I should ask 'cuz I'm not sure if his depression is related to his illness. He tells me that he's fine physically (the medication he's on has put the cancer into complete remission, thank God), but he's just feeling bummed. I ask him why he's so bummed and he says...........get this............he's bummed out because of the changes made in Star Wars Galaxies!
I'm like, wtf?!?!?!?!?!
He says, the game has changed and he doesn't think it's right. A lot of his "guild-mates" have quit, and now he doesn't have many people to play with. He said the state of the game, and the way all his "friends" have left really bums him out. He goes on to tell me about some video that was made for SWG. Some guy created an .mpeg of his character running around the streets of all the major cities and there was no one there. The cities were completely empty. Evidently, the guy edited the .mpeg so the Green Day song "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" was playing throughout the video.
Carsa tells me that he can relate to the video. That it's really lonely for him playing the game. He's so depressed that he doesn't want to leave the house. He finally tells me his doctor is prescribing him some anti-depressants.
Now, I've lived with the fact that Carsa has always been a little "different" (for lack of a better word). He's always been over-emotional and sometimes he gets into bouts of depression. But come on...IT'S A FREAKING VIDEO GAME FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!! How can someone let a video game control their lives to the point of depression. When a game has a hold of you that strongly, it's time seek professional help. I can't believe Carsa defines his life by a stupid game! I'm telling you, the guy scares me sometimes. If someone lets a game control his/her life to this degree, I can't fathom what he's capable of doing in his "real life" because of his depressed state.Statistics: Posted by Mammoth — Thu Nov 17, 2005 1:39 pm
