With any luck I will be beta testing Lord of the Rings Online starting tonight if they servers are up. I don't have high hopes for it. It is run by Turbine, the company that butchered D&D Online. That and I just can't see Middle Earth being translated to a compelling MMO. We'll see. I'll let you all know my impressions as I get to play.

Beta testing is always fun, even if the game turns out to be a dud. I dodn't have high hopes for this one either. The genre is just too big. Kinda like Star Wars ... if it ain't great, it's shit.
Let us know what you think though.

I am a big Tolkien fan, so I have to give it a shot at least.
I am not sure when in the timeline they are placing the game. If it is concurrent with Ring trilogy I see a problem with that. The state of the world is too well documented during that time to give the designers enough flexibility for a good MMO.
But there are other times in the history of ME that they could use with some success. Just like I think that SWG should have been set way before or after the timeframe if the movies. A MMO in the KOTOR days would have provided the designers a lot more flexibility IMO.
