Well, looks like Mammy's gonna be a daddy!

We've known for a few months that my wife was pregnant, and last week we got back from our week 21 doctors visit where we had our most recent ultrasound. And the results are in.....we're having a baby GIRL!

Yes, after wishing for a healthy baby, I was hoping for a boy. Well, that's not the cards nature dealt me. So, it looks like I'm gonna have a "daddy's little girl."

Quite honestly, I'm a little scared. I know I'll be a good father when she's young. Heck, I was at my brother's home for Thanksgiving, and he has two little daughters (one 7 yrs old & one 5 yrs old). I played with them the entire time I was there and they kept telling me I was going to be a good dad. How cute is that?! But I'm really worried my daughter will hate me when she gets to dating age.

I mean, every boy that shows up at that door...I'll know what's on his mind. I was his age once, and I know what I thought whenever I picked up a girl for a date. And God knows, I don't want that boy thinking those thoughts about my little girl. I swear, I'm going to want to kill any man thinking that way about my daughter. I'm going to be a nervous wreck, and my daughter will probably hate me for being such a controlling jerk.

It would have been much simpler if it was a boy. Oh well, the baby's healthy so you really can't ask for more than that.

Grats Mammy!! That is great news. Girls are awesome... though I have nothing to compare mine to.

As far as worrying about your daughters and sex. Well, you CAN'T control them. Period. The more oppressive you are, the more you will lose them.

I figure that with my 2 daughters, my job is to make it so that none of those idiot teenage boys can measure up to me and how well I treat my girls. LOL... sounds easy enough, but girls are hard to raise. But they melt your heart like nothing else too.

Nothing is going to change the boys. Nothing is going to change that your daughter will date them... and eventually experiment with them. The only thing that I figure I can influence is my daughter's idea of what a healthy relationship should be and how they should respect themselves.

I don't worry so much about teenage boys when my girls are teenagers. I worry about predators noticing how beautiful and spirited they are.

I just show them all how proud I am of my shotgun collection. I am not above polishing them when they're visiting ...

Seriously, though, congratulations! Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. I hoped that my first would be a girl (who will be 15 in two weeks), and she was. We have one of each, and I've come to find this: early on, girls are easier and boys are a handful - as they get to their preteen years, the roles reverse.

So enjoy the next decade or so!
