Checking in...

Postby Dedalus » Mon Aug 06, 2012 9:34 am

Hello to anyone still checking in here. Hope all is well. I've been playing Skyrim lately and trying to make it through the crap life has been thowing at me. The wife finally got a job offer after 2 1/2 years of sporadic substitute teaching, so that is very good news. I'm hoping to build a machine or 2 this fall to replace the aging ones my kids have been using. Other than that, nothing much to tell. Just wanted to say hello. :D

Hi Shelt. And "hi" to Pratt as well. And "hi" to anyone else that checks this board (KillerPX, Vortex, Basser, VD, etc...).

Glad to see your wife got a teaching gig, Shelt. That's cool. I know how hard it is to get a teaching job nowadays. My wife just took a registrar position at Michigan State University...she was the registrar for a local Bake College for 10 years. So I'm very familiar with the educational system...both in the college arena and in elementary education (I've got 3 close friends whom are all teachers in various elementary schools around the state).

Everything is ok over here. Can't complain.

Hey, didn't KillerPX get married recently? I seem to recall reading something about that a while ago. Maybe I'm wrong.

I know that [GunZ]GI_Joe got married a few months back and just had his first kid on July 20th. Kind of funny seeing all these "kids" we used to play Half-Life with back in the day grow up and get married. I still think of Killer as a 13 year old Ralph Macchio look-a-like. Man, how time flies.

Well, hope everything is going well for everyone else. Take care.

Oh, and since football season is right around the corner..........

Hey guys! Was out of town last week and didn't see all the exciting new posts... :P

Glad to hear you guys are doing well. I started and stopped Skyrim a couple of weeks ago after only an hour or two. I think my brain got the better of me as I sank 120+ hours into the previous installment and I feared getting all caught up inside it again. Plus, I thought the new intro was significantly less interesting than the one with Patrick Stewart.

We've been flirting with staying or quitting TOR. Never did quite hit the level cap, and got "forced" to go to a server that didn't have 3 people left in it (since everyone just up and migrated). Now there are a lot of people in the new server (although we lost our legacies - Shikse had 'Lucas'...) And of course the whole F2P thing looms large. Don't know what will happen.

Been very busy as I have since picked up a part-time job doing basically the same thing (web-based software). I can't tell if I'm motivated more by the money or the slightly different technology, or the fact that the company is closer to home. I'm doing both jobs from home so I don't think it much matters, but I'm starting to think I've lost what's left of my mind.

Kids are both in their senior years now - 1 in college, and 1 in high school. So if you're the praying type, conference us in. =]

I'll keep it short for now lest this become another conversational black hole for 6 months.

cheers,
-p.

Hey dudes. I'm a systems administrator these days for a medium-sized corporation but my role is more like IT Director. I am responsible for the network and server infrastructure for 4 companies and man.. it's a roller coaster. One week it's quiet (I may or may not indulge in a few spurts of Minecraft and invite some fellow IT guys..), the next the world will be ending. I've really been able to turn this company's IT around, though, and I'm given a lot of freedom as long as I don't spend anything  Open source and Amazon Web Services are definitely money savers... Anyway, still lots to improve and lots to learn at this job. It's been 2 years now and I yet to run out of steam. I'm hoping that doesn't change, but shit always does so no delusions there :P

As for getting married.. not yet! October 20th, though, so it's close. .

Games.. I haven't been able to get attached to any. I keep going back and forth between them. I really enjoyed TOR for a while, in the middle of Max Payne 3, for some reason Realm of the Mad God has been entertaining, got back into Counter-strike a bit with CS:GO, Diablo III every once in a while... I dunno, I haven't been able to be as captivated in a game like I was when I was younger. It's definitely something I miss being able to do... getting lost in a video game.

Instead of games I've really been into outdoor stuff.. primarily mountain biking and hiking.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd that's my story.

I haven't checked here as often as I used to check here, but it's a good thing that I ended up here (oddly enough from doing a search for something else that led to a thread here from back in 2006 - lol).

It's definitely a trip thinking about how long everybody's tried to keep in touch here. It's the walk down forum in Boston, eh?

It's good to see some good going on out there, no? Some things picking up, so to speak. One of those always wishing the best for the guys sort of things.

As for football, c'mon... I try not to hold it against you guys that you're not Steelers fans, but it gets harder each season. :)

Killer....awesome. Oct. 20th is right around the corner. Congrats man! You guys look happy. You can't ask for more than that. Good to see the rest of you guys still hanging around and I'm glad everyone seems to be doing decently too.

And VD, if we're talking football, I can't be rooting for no Steelers or any Patriots in Pratt's neck-of-the-woods. My allegiance is with, and always will be, the Bears! Pray for Cutler. He gets knocked around like a pinball each and every game. I swear, the guy is going to end up a cripple by the time his tenure in Chicago is done. :o

Oh. And get Mendenhall back on the field. I stashed him away in my FF League thinking I could use him later in the season. Unfortunately, my starting backs (Forte and Steven Jackson) are both hurt/nursing injuries. I've got no quality RB's behind them, so I need Mendenhall back in the lineup STAT! Pull some strings, will ya?!

Heh, the GF's a Ravens fan - so it's going to be an interesting Sunday night. I'm rooting for a tie. Forget all the talk about one team being 2-1...both teams should be 1-1-1. :)

I have to give Cutler credit - I haven't seen him doing the pout thing in a wee while. That drove me crazy, lol.

I haven't done FF in a few years. Last time, I led the entire season and then lost in the first post game. It was frustrating. It was kind of funny, because there's no way I should have led with the team I had - it's just a case that everybody else was losing players left, right, and center. It was a slow and steady thing...meh.

Each time I come here, I keep thinking to ask what games folks are playing - if they're playing games at all. I haven't subbed to a game since my six month ended last year with RIFT. Course, before that was the travesty of Cata. I did the TSW beta, and if I had over a grand - I probably would have played that (was looking at over $500 to upgrade both the GF and my computers to be able to play it). I randomly log in to STO - thought sometimes it's just long enough to hear the music and I'm already logging out.

I spend more time on forums doing PvP than I do in games, lol. Each time I try to spend some time on Facebook, I...just don't. Ended up unfriending/unliking folks because of politics...good stuff...meh.

Hope everybody is doing well...

...and Pratt, sorry that the Pats are going to start 1-2 this season.
